The Virginia General Assembly recently celebrated its four hundredth anniversary, having been founded in 1619 at Jamestown, where America began.

Besides being the oldest legislative body in the Western Hemisphere, this lawmaking body is an important, formative part of American history.

It served under three national governments: The British Empire, the Confederate States of America and the United States of America, all the while making laws for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

I even had a few relatives who served in it.

The four hundredth anniversary was definitely worth celebrating, and President Donald Trump participated in it by delivering a discourse.
