In the fields of archaeology and paleontology, there is much that has been excavated in Mexico, and probably much more to excavate.

Four recent paleontological discoveries are:
1. A Megalodon (extinct giant shark) found in Guerrero State.
2. A newly-designated dinosaur species found in Coahuila State.
3. A plesiosaur species named after a Mexican mayor.
4. A mammoth molar found in Gomez Palacio, Durango.
